Lebanon:I'm confused,Hezbollah continue to exist,are there other armed militias which also still exist?

For example Maronite Christians, Sunni Muslims, Druze, other Shia militias? Why is it that since the civil war only Hezbollah remain? Didn't all militia groups have to disarm under the peace agreement? Thanks.

True that Lebanon didn't properly pick a side, but the only side for Christian Lebanese is the West. The Shia are beyond salvation AFAIC and can go to hell.



BTW Israel is lightyears ahead of Egypt in military readiness. The thing is the Egyptian army today is responsible and not insane. Also Israel really doesn't want to kill 100,000 Egyptian soldiers or even 1. That is why there is no war.

Lebanon? Neutral!? Radroud, where are you living? Switzerland is Neutral. Lebanon is SPINELESS.



Lebanon could've been a Switzerland, at one point in time. It still could be, but it'd take effort. Switzerland found the high road. Their army didn't become strong because they stuck with one side, it became strong because it chummied up to BOTH. And now it has an insanely dtrong army, for a peaceful country that they are.



Lebanon isn't neutral simply because of you nationalists and socialists thinking of Hizbollah and any other militias as 'nobel' and 'resistance' forces. They aren't. They're clearly siding you up, and if you haven't noticed, each of them is controlled by an outside force making Lebanon a PUPPET. And no, not a 'Zionist' puppet or a 'Western' puppet. There was too many militias, some of them were secular leftists too. Under the peace agreement all militias had to disarm. However there are rumors that many of them didn't give all their weapons such as the Lebanese Forces(Maronite).The Druze militia appeared in 2008 when there was some trouble (too long to explain), and they managed to beat Hezbollah in a short battle.

There is also some rumors now that many of the parties are rearming. It's clear that both Sunnis and Shias have a lot of weapons,and now the rumors said that the Christian parties are rearming as well.



Now to answer your question, under the agreement all militias had to disarm. However when the agreement was enforced Syrian troops were here and it allowed parties that were resisting Israel to keep their weapons and that continued after the Syrians left. Thus Hezbollah and Amal still have their weapons since they are resistance parties. I also think that the Communist party and the SSNP still have their weapons since they also fought Israel. But Hezbollah is the main group.



There's always talking about disarming, but until we have a powerful army,that's not gonna happen, too many people support Hezbollah to keep his weapon so we have some sort of a deterrence against Israel.

@RG we dont't have an army strong enough and as i said before ,i cannot trust a peace treaty if we don't have an army strong enough to threaten israel and make it think twice before breaking the agreement. @RG Syria is not an enemy country for a simple reason which is that we need the Syrian border for our economy to export whatever we receive in port Beirut to Arab countries. All countries meddle with Lebanese affairs including Syria, almost all the world is to blame. You know what is the reason? it's us always being neutral. There are two camps,the eastern camp Russia,China,Iran,Syria... and the western camp US,Israel, and European countries that support that camp usually. When we are neutral in that region, we are allowing both parties to play on our ground and we have no serious ally,we have to pick sides.And by reviewing history, i prefer to stick with Russia rather then the US. I'm not saying we should become enemies of the west, but allies with Russia and a friendly stance toward the west just like many countries in the eastern camp. Look what Russia did to Syria, it made a powerful military, helped Syria with its debt and economy,through the government. Assad corruption didn't do well with that help though. We can do better then Syria if we learn from Syria, we can have a better military then Syria since our officers are much more educated, and if you read how few Lebanese soldiers barely armed massacred the Syrian forces when they tried to get in Lebanon,you'll understand what i'm talking about. We are a democracy and with the help of Russia to make Lebanon more secure and stable, the economic help will actually work in Lebanon unlike Syria. And with all that help Syria maintained its independence in political things,that cannot be said of most American allies. So of course the Lebanese Army won't be allowed to be that strong unless we pick a side.

I'm not saying i want war with Israel, nor do i want peace, i just want a permanent ceasefire until the resolution of Arab-Israeli conflicts.



Israel cannot smash the Egyptian army, the Egyptian Army is stronger than you think,i'm not saying Israel can't win but it won't be a pleasant thing to do,it will have dangerous consequences.

Syria has done much worse to Lebanon then Israël has. Technically Lebanon should be at war with Syria not Israël. It was actually Syria who perpetrated fighting in between religious sects in Lebanon as one of its attempts to weaken Lebanon in order to annex it. If anything, Israël seems to recognize Lebanons sovereignty more then Syria. At least they don't mess around with our politics.
