They are two different universities.
The American University of Beirut (AUB) was founded in 1866 as a private, independent, non-sectarian institution of higher learning, functioning under a charter from the State of New York.

The Labenese American University (LAU) was know as BUC (Beirut College University) and before that it was an all women college BCW (Beirut College for women)(1948). The university’s early days in 1835 find a reminder in an engraved stone in Beirut’s city center: “Site of the first edifice built as a school for girls in the Turkish Empire.” The engraving refers to the American School for Girls, established in Beirut by American Presbyterian missionaries.
Sorry but the answer above me is wrong, in both universities they speak perfect english and the courses are all in english

Along with AUC in Cairo, they are the only American Universities in the Middle East. Both are accredited in the US. AUB has a beautiful campus, LAU/Beirut is much smaller, LAU/Byblos has a lot of space and looks over the Med. AUB has a reputation to rest on, LAU seems to be where the action is now with several new schools and new buildings. AUB looks stronger in Business and Nursing, LAU in Medicine and Design.

the AUB is first of probably alot nicer. and they speak enlgish there due to the amount of american international students that want to study there. i am contemplating to go to AUC or AUB for a semester soon inshallah.. to study abroad program to see if i like it there.. because i am planning on going into internation relations and foriegn affairs.. so it should be interesting.
and the Lebanese university is mainly all in arabic.look it um on google AUC is amazing.
