Confessionalism is a system of government that distributes political and institutional power proportionally among religious communities. Posts in government and seats in the legislature are apportioned amongst different groups according to the relative demographic composition of those groups in a society, which is seen as a way of formally recognizing the communal political rights of indigenous groups. Currently, the political system of Lebanon is modeled in such a way, and the term is usually associated with Lebanon.
Proponents of confessionalism cite it as an effective way to secure the peaceful co-existence of diverse religious and ethnic communities by empowering each according to its "weight" in the region. However, critics point out that such a system may actually deepen conflict between ethnic groups. They argue that whichever group holds the most political power may use government to favor itself at the expense of other groups, or even to oppress rival groups. Also, as demographics change, the positions and power held by a particular group may no longer appropriately reflect the size of that group.
Debate over confessionalism raises similar issues to those facing consociationalism, of which confessionalism is one kind.
In the Netherlands the term "confessionalism" refers to Christian democracy. (Wikipedia)

No it doesn't ... we are being held hostage by the system and the government which makes it practically impossible to change... but we also understand that if we chose not to vote for anyone, democracy would die and we would end up like our neighbors.

So basically we put up with the political battle of the $hittie$t and hope to god we live to see another day!

Do they educate their daughters or only their sons? If they are uncomfortable with allowing women into the political process, then you will continue the chaos (most males prefer chaos).

Educate a girl and you educate a greater number of people. Consider the coming-of-age story of two young girls in two very different families. Each had lost her mother and one did not safely reach adulthood. The other also lost her mother but she had three women around her to help her safely reach adulthood. Those helpers were Maudie, Alexandra, and Calpurnia. Hollywood told its own version of the story in the book. Americans may know it the book as Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird." Not talking about the shallow movie adaptation.

In Lebanon, the government is not here to serve the people but to serve the pockets of some ministers and especially the actual prime minister...as for us, the people, each family makes up its own government to be able to navigate thru life.

i think religion should be completly ignored in politics.. its 2009 for God's sake religion is old fashion . I mean isnt the situation in lebanon enough proof that the current system is a failure, most people didnt give a **** about religion until after the civil war and the current system keeps makin it worse , reminding people of religion, basing politics on magical stories and old books writen in the desert and an invisible body which they call God that created us so he can play with us like Sims . Most of Western Europe and other developed countries are over religion now expect for the Americans who still take religion a bit too seriously . I wish Arabs were like the Japanese most of them are members of more than one religion , japanese religions are more like atheisim to monotheist
